Three observations from Liverpool training as a defender makes an unexpectedly early return
Liverpool began preseason training for the 2022-23 season yesterday.
As pre-season begins, Jurgen Klopp’s squad returns to their Kirkby training base.
Some Reds players, including Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, will not return until later this week.
They have been given more time off following the international break.
But here are three things we noticed during the session.
New boys get started
The official unveiling of Fabio Carvalho took place over the weekend.
Before images and interviews, the offensive midfielder was revealed as a Liverpool player in May, with a cost of up to £7.7 million agreed with Fulham.
Carvalho will now feel he has really begun his career with the Reds.
On what would have been an exciting day for him, the teenager met up with his new teammates.

Calvin Ramsay, who moved from Aberdeen for up to £6.5 million, is in the same boat.
The pair are probably ready to get on the grass with Liverpool and show off their skills.
Darwin Nunez, on the other hand, was not present at Kirkby. The striker was signed from Benfica for a club-record fee of £85 million.
He was granted more time off after representing Uruguay during the international break.
Chambers’ shock appearance
Kaide Gordon’s inclusion in Klopp’s squad came as no surprise.
The 17-year-old winger is anticipated to be on the fringe of things again this season and will play in cup tournaments.
However, the fact that Luke Chambers reported for duty came as a surprise.
It hasn’t even been a week since Chambers led England to under-19 European Championship triumph. The defender came off the bench in Friday’s 3-1 final victory over Israel.
However, rather than taking a well-deserved rest, Chambers has demonstrated his dedication by checking in with Kirkby.
Pep Lijnders has stated that he is excited to watch Chambers work with the first team this summer.
The 18-year-old is definitely eager to impress, and it will not go unnoticed.
Davies returns
Ben Davies is one player who has fallen out of favour with supporters.
Signed in January 2020 during a defensive crisis, the centre-back has yet to make a single game for Liverpool.
Davies was on loan at Sheffield United last season. Despite only making 22 appearances, he generally impressed when he did appear.

Davies has returned to Merseyside until his next move is determined.
In reality, it’s tough to imagine Davies breaking into Klopp’s plans.
Liverpool’s center-back possibilities are Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibou Konate, and Joe Gomez.
Rhys Williams and Sepp van den Berg are the juniors who play below the senior quartet.
Let us not forget about Nat Phillips. He’s returned after assisting Bournemouth’s promotion to the Premier League, but he’s set to go again.
Nonetheless, Davies will be eager to put himself up against Nunez, Mo Salah, and Luis Diaz in training.
