Thomas Tuchel reveals one Chelsea star he was disappointed to see leave in summer transfer window
Thomas Tuchel has expressed his disappointment at Tino Livramento’s departure from Chelsea during the summer transfer window.
The 18-year-old defender joined Southampton on a permanent basis in early August for a fee believed to be in the region of £5 million, and he has been a standout for the Saints thus far this season.
Livramento stated that he needed to leave Stamford Bridge for the sake of his career when asked about his departure from the club.
“It wasn’t easy obviously as I have been a fan for as long as I can remember and been a player there since I was seven.
“I never thought that I would be playing straight away [at Saints] but you have to take everything in your stride and you cannot hide when you get that opportunity. You have to take it. I hope I can keep doing that.
“At Southampton, luckily with the manager, the staff and the players, it has come together quite nicely.”
Tuchel has now admitted, ahead of Chelsea’s home game against Southampton this weekend, that he was disappointed to see Livramento leave over the summer and has insisted that the Blues did everything in their power to persuade him to stay.
“Yes of course he was highly rated, we did everything to keep him here, to show him his future and his possibilities to compete also for a position in our team,” Tuchel said on Livramento.
“He decided to go, that’s his decision, that’s one we have to accept with no hard feelings because we can show him the possibilities and then it’s on the player.
“He was of course competing with Reece James and Azpi on the right wing-back position, so I think it was an ideal position for him to fight.
“The group is not too big so there was a big chance also to make it all the way.
“If Tino decided to go that’s fair enough, we wish him all the best and this is what it is.
“Of course we saw the potential, he decided to go another way and fight for place at Southampton and that’s how the business is.”
Chelsea will be desperate to get back to winning ways against Southampton on Saturday, after losing their previous two games against Manchester City and Juventus.
