Thomas Tuchel picks out the Chelsea star he wants first in Bayern Munich raid

Thomas Tuchel, the manager of Bayern Munich, is expected to target his previous club Chelsea this summer in an effort to mold his new team in his image. Last Friday, Tuchel replaced Julian Nagelsmann at the German giants, and he wasted little time alerting his bosses of the requirements for his success.

Already granted permission to bring highly-regarded Chelsea coach Anthony Barry to the Allianz Arena, the German wants to return to Stamford Bridge to add another former favorite to his playing staff.

The Times says that Bayern are considering a transfer for midfielder Mason Mount, whose contract dispute continues.

Tuchel is an avid admirer of Mount, having worked with him for 18 months during a highly successful tenure that includes the 2021 Champions League-winning season.

The 24-year-old’s future in west London is unknown, since negotiations to extend his current contract beyond the summer of 2024 have stalled.

As a result, a line of clubs appears to have emerged to get the midfielder on the cheap at the conclusion of this season. If Bayern were to approve Tuchel’s request, they would have to fend off Premier League competition, as Liverpool appears to be in the lead after increasing their interest in recent weeks.

Mount, who has twice been named Chelsea’s player of the year since breaking into the first team in 2019 under Frank Lampard, desires a pay commensurate with his value to the team. The Blues desire to sign Mount to a seven-year contract, despite the player’s reluctance to do so.

A source told football.london that… The Reds are seriously interested in the England international and are planning a summer deal for the midfielder should the situation not be resolved.

After spending £600 million over the past two summer transfer windows and with worries of a possible breach of FFP laws, Chelsea will be looking to offload some players. Boehly and his team will identify potential Stamford Bridge departures in order to balance the books and ensure that the roster is not overstaffed.

Furthermore, Tuchel might attempt to take advantage of a potential Chelsea purge by acquiring departing players. The former Chelsea manager might also look at out-of-favour striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and American international Christian Pulisic, whose contention for a starting spot has increased significantly since the additions of Noni Madueke, Joao Felix, and Mykhailo Mudryk.
