Thomas Tuchel eyes ex-player as Hakim Ziyech departure considered.
After challenging the Champions League for the second time in the club’s history, the Blues will be awaiting further breakthrough in the 2021/22 season.
Chelsea will be expecting a challenging Manchester City for the Premier League trophy, having got the better of Pep Guardiola’s men in the last three encounters between the teams.
But reinforcements will be required in the forthcoming transfer window for this chance to become a reality.
Tuchel lately revealed that the club will look to recruit “two or three” players in the coming weeks, with exits also expected.
Chelsea are now involved in securing the services of Benfica midfielder Julian Weigl.
The Blues continue to be associated with a move for West Ham’s Declan Rice, though do not seem to be making much progress with this deal.
And Weigl is now someone who has been listed as a potential alternative, available at a lower price of £25m.

Despite dazzling for current club Benfica, the Portuguese giants are looking to free up funds according to media outlet A Bola.
Tuchel previously worked with the 25-year-old at Borussia Dortmund and could use this to his influence when trying to recruit the German.
Chelsea are also contemplating offloading Hakim Ziyech after just one year at the club.
The Blues spent over £200m on new signings last summer, with the Moroccan midfielder one of the first players they agreed on a deal for.
Ziyech has endured a mixed debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, displaying flashes of brilliance on occasions.
The 28-year-old was left out of Tuchel’s starting eleven for both Champions League semi-final matches with Real Madrid, as well as the subsequent final versus Manchester City.
Italian outleft Calciomercato are now insisting that Ziyech is not viewed as part of the club’s long-term project, signaling the likes of Napoli and AC Milan.
