Thomas Tuchel delivers fresh Chelsea FC transfer update on Erling Haaland
Chelsea FC “talked about” signing Erling Haaland on several occasions during the summer transfer window, according to Thomas Tuchel.
The Blues were heavily linked with a summer move for the Norway international, but Chelsea FC ultimately signed Romelu Lukaku in a £97.5 million deal with Inter Milan.
Chelsea FC, along with Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and FC Barcelona, have continued to be involved in discussions about Haaland’s future.
The 21-year-old reportedly has a contract release clause worth around £64 million that will come into play next summer, giving interested clubs the chance to sign Haaland at a significant discount.
Tuchel has now confirmed that the Blues were interested in signing Haaland before the 2021-22 season began.
“We have talked about Haaland a couple of times also in the transfer window. It looked unrealistic and not possible to do,” Tuchel told Bild, as quoted by The Sun.
“Of course we talk regularly about him because he is a fantastic player and a profile at Dortmund, which is a big rival for us in the Champions League.”
Lukaku has struggled to make an impact at Chelsea FC, despite scoring in a 2-0 win over Arsenal in his first appearance since returning to Stamford Bridge.
The Belgium international was forced off in the first half of Chelsea FC’s 4-0 Champions League victory over Malmo at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Asked about the possibility of Haaland and Lukaku playing in the same Chelsea FC team, Tuchel told Bild: “Sign Haaland with Lukaku? I’ve no problem to talk about that. Let us see what will happen next weeks”
In six Bundesliga games this season, Haaland has nine goals and three assists, while Lukaku has three goals in seven Premier League games.
The Belgian forward scored 47 goals in two seasons at Inter Milan, but Haaland has scored 49 goals in the 22 months since joining Dortmund from FC Salzburg.
