Thomas Tuchel Chelsea manager provides fresh injury update on Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner will be out for a while after suffering injuries in the Champions League against Malmo.

Last night, they started up front against Malmo, but they were forced off the field during the first half.

In the 17th minute, Lukaku won a penalty for the Blues, but a rough challenge on him contributed to his early substitution as he twisted his ankle.

Werner pulled up near the end of the half, clearly concerned about his hamstring. As he was helped down the tunnel, he grimaced in pain.

Tuchel confirmed injuries to both strikers after the 4-0 victory, and acknowledged that they could be out for some time.

He told Chelseafc.com: “Romelu twisted his ankle when he was fouled in the box and Timo has a hamstring injury, so it will take a while for both of them.”

“We need more examinations to be more precise but they will be out for some matches.”

The Blues have a favorable schedule ahead of them in the Premier League, with games against Norwich City, Burnley, and Newcastle United scheduled before the international break.

All three clubs are currently in the relegation zone, and the Blues have a good chance of retaining their top spot in the coming weeks.

The absence of Lukaku and Werner, on the other hand, is a significant setback for the club. Tuchel must now reschedule his attacking options for the remainder of the season.

Kai Havertz, who played in the false number nine role on multiple occasions under Tuchel at the end of last season, could be a candidate.

The German has had limited game time off the bench recently, but he will have gained confidence after scoring in the 4-0 thrashing of Malmo.

The Blues are currently second in their Champions League group with six points, three points behind Juventus, who also have the head-to-head advantage.
