The Blues put themselves on the edge of grasping a top-four finish with a commanding 2-1 victory over Leicester City at Stamford Bridge last night.

Second-half goals from Antonio Rudiger, who was nothing short of exceptional at center-back, and midfielder Jorginho secured an important three points for Thomas Tuchel’s side, before Leicester gave themselves a flicker of hope with just under 15 minutes remaining when Kelechi Iheanacho pounced on a rare Blues defensive mistake.

Nevertheless, despite the Nigerian’s 19th goal of the campaign to set up a tight finale, Chelsea endured on to get the job done.

However, the most significant talking point after Iheanacho’s goal did not exactly relate to the footballing issue, with the biggest flashpoint coming in the closing scenes of the game when a large-scale skirmish broke out on the touchline after Leicester right-back Ricardo Pereira fouled Ben Chilwell.

Almost every player and substitute got themselves involved, including goalkeepers Edouard Mendy and Kasper Schmeichel, who had rushed over from their own 18-yard boxes to try and calm the situation.

The brawl appeared to be never-ending, with voices being raised and bodies being jostled and shoved. In the end, Leicester substitute Daniel Amartey, who had not even walked off the bench, was booked by referee Mike Dean for his involvement.

Amongst all the tension that had gone, Amartey had made his way from his seat and onto the pitch to get himself involved, only for him to come face-to-face with Chelsea defender Thiago Silva.

Amartey, of course, had been under the spotlight ahead of the game after he was filmed throwing the Chelsea pennant given to Leicester ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley over his shoulder in the dressing room during the Foxes’ FA Cup victory celebrations.

The video went viral online and made Leicester to grant Chelsea an apology for a lack of respect being shown ahead of last night’s meeting at Stamford Bridge.

Clearly, you could sense that Chelsea’s players were still angered with Amartey’s doings, as Silva was pictured showing the finger at the Leicester defender during the rumpus.

The image of the Brazilian doing just that was shared on social media and was soon spotted by the defender’s wife – Belle Silva – and she took a screenshot of the original tweet and said: “That’s right @tsilva3, show who’s boss,” followed by a fist emoji.

It is clear that she was recounting back to the episode that happened at Wembley on Saturday, whilst extending support to her husband.

Amartey’s actions in the Wembley dressing room had created a certain level of offense to Chelsea and the players as it displayed a lack of respect towards the west London club.

Considering Chelsea leapfrogged the Foxes in the table with last night’s triumph, it no doubts felt like bittersweet retaliation for the Blues, who were worthy winners of all three points in the race for the UEFA Champions League.

Evaluating his side’s performance after the game, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel said:
“It felt like a huge effort and a top performance. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a big step but it’s only a step, it’s not done yet.

“We have to get over the line on Sunday. It was a team effort full of intensity, full of hunger and ambition. We played many, many minutes with a lot of quality.

“It was in my opinion a well-deserved win but it’s not the time for praise and celebration. It’s not the time about philosophy and whether this is more than three points.”
