Thiago Silva breaks his own personal Champions League record in Chelsea vs Lille victory
Thiago Silva was at it again in Chelsea’s win over Lille.
The Blues defender delivered yet another masterclass in his team’s 2-0 win over Lille at home, giving them a commanding lead in the Champions League last-16 tie.
In the first leg of the game, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic both scored.
Silva shone in the heart of the back three to help the team keep a clean sheet. Not conceding has become a common occurrence under manager Thomas Tuchel, particularly in European matches.
Silva, who was making his 30th appearance of the season, was a constant thorn in the side of French visitors Lille.
He may be nearing the end of his career, but there are no signs of him slowing down anytime soon.
Silva’s performance last night even broke a personal record, according to statisticians OptaJoe..
The Brazilian centre-half won possession from Lille 12 times during the game, his most in a Champions League game.
From his time with Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and AC Milan, he has made 94 appearances in Europe’s top club competition.

There can be many debates about Chelsea’s best back three combination, but the two of Silva and Antonio Ruddier are unquestionably the best.
Andreas Christensen, who often goes unnoticed, put in a strong performance in this week’s Lille victory.
Elsewhere, Trevoh Chalobah or club captain Cesar Azpilicueta could easily be thrown into the mix to form a fantastic backline.
