“They’re used to it here”- Antonio Conte enraged by Tottenham’s mediocrity after Southampton draw
Antonio Conte’s post-game interview following Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Southampton was a remarkable event.
The Italian coach was livid after the match ended, as we had conceded a penalty goal to James Ward-Prowse in the 93rd minute, and he carried that fury with him when facing the media.
The 3-3 tie, in which we were ahead 3-1 with approximately 76 minutes left, left Tottenham just two points ahead of Newcastle United, who are currently in fifth place with two games in hand.
Following the game at St. Mary’s, the former Chelsea boss made remarks, as reported by Football.London.
“Because they are used to it here, they are used to it. They don’t play for something important yeah. They don’t want to play under pressure, they don’t want to play under stress. It is easy in this way. Tottenham’s story is this.
“20 years there is the owner and they never won something but why? The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stay here? I have seen the managers that Tottenham had on the bench.”

If Newcastle and Brighton & Hove Albion manage to win their outstanding fixtures, they can surpass Spurs in the standings.
Additionally, Liverpool could narrow the gap to just one point if they win their upcoming match against Spurs at Anfield, given that Tottenham have one game left to play against them this season. Conte further stated:
“…there are 10 games to go and some people think we can fight. Fight for what with his spirit, this attitude, this commitment? What? For seventh, eighth, 10th place? I am not used to this position. I’m really upset and everyone has to take their responsibility.”
There has been much talk about Conte’s contract situation in recent weeks. It could be that the club’s current situation and level of competition are contributing factors to this discussion.
In his earlier comments, Conte emphasized his desire to compete at the highest level only. While he has achieved domestic titles with Juventus, Inter Milan, and Chelsea, he can no longer continue blaming the club.
Despite having three transfer windows at Tottenham, Daniel Levy has supported him to a reasonable extent.
It appears that either Conte is being extremely impatient by making these comments just a year and a half into his tenure, despite previously urging fans to be patient, or he might be preparing to depart and using the club’s lack of progress as an excuse.
To initiate a revolution at Tottenham, Conte could demonstrate his commitment to the club by signing a new contract, which could also boost his players’ confidence in both him and the club’s project moving forward.
