‘They’re going to kick the s*** out of you’ – Dimitar Berbatov sends warning to Manchester United star Antony
Dimitar Berbatov, a former Manchester United player, has cautioned Antony to reduce the amount of flashy and deceitful moves in his playing style.
He believes that the Brazilian player risks annoying people with his current approach. Antony joined United last summer from Ajax for £85.5million, as he was the preferred choice of manager Erik ten Hag to enhance the team’s right-wing options.
However, he has not yet lived up to expectations, scoring only seven goals and providing just one assist in 30 matches for the club. Although he has shown some potential, his performance has been inconsistent.
Antony has received negative feedback for occasionally pushing his showy abilities and Brazilian style too much. In October, former United midfielder Paul Scholes referred to him as a “clown” after he showed off his skills during the Reds’ 3-0 Europa League victory over Sheriff Tiraspol at Old Trafford.
According to Berbatov, Antony needs to adjust his playing style for his own benefit. Berbatov spoke to Betfred and stated:
“I think he’s been a good signing. However, in my eyes, he does sometimes get deserved criticism because he shows off on the pitch and he tries to make the opposition look foolish in a negative way.
“Sometimes his trickery provides nothing for the team and if he can eradicate these negative elements of his game then it will greatly improve his impact on the team. However, if you mock your opponent then they’re going to kick the s*** out of you and you’re not going to have the respect of the players you’re playing against.
“If he can remove these traits, then he can improve a lot more because he’s a great talent with great qualities and he scores great goals as well. His problem is that he can p*** people off and he needs to correct this.”
