‘They’re better’: Gary Neville says Manchester City would win the PL title by Christmas if they had three Liverpool stars
Gary Neville claimed on his self titled podcast that if Manchester City had Liverpool’s regular front-three, they would win the league by Christmas.
City are currently one point behind Liverpool in the Premier League table, and Neville believes Pep Guardiola’s side can be defeated due to a lack of goal scorers.
City tried hard to sign Harry Kane in the summer but were unable to complete a deal.
As a result of the strength of their attacking players, Neville believes Liverpool has an advantage over City up top.
“I know sometimes we talk about this front three with Liverpool. We talk about Firmino, Mane and Salah – we put them all together because they have been awesome together,” he said.
“But he [Salah] is a level above the other two. The other two are fantastic players, I love all three of them.
“I was saying when City had Sterling, Aguero and Sane – I thought Liverpool’s front three were better then.
“I still think they’re better now. If the front three of Liverpool was in the City team this league would be done by Christmas. They just haven’t got the cutting edge up-front that Liverpool have still got.”
Salah demonstrated his ability to find the back of the net once more in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with City yesterday.
At the time, the Egyptian scored a brilliant goal to put the Reds up 2-1.
Salah outmuscled Bernardo Silva before cutting inside and creating space for a shot that sailed past Ederson and into the back of the net.
However, there may be more questions about what Firmino and Mane would bring to City’s team right now.
Mane has had a strong start to the season for Liverpool this time around, but he did not reach double figures last season.
Meanwhile, Firmino has lost his spot as a sure starter for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The Brazilian is frequently benched in favor of Diogo Jota, but on his day, he remains a major threat.
