‘They say’: Fabrizio Romano reveals what ‘sources at Shakhtar’ are saying about Mudryk and Arsenal

Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Arsenal’s long-standing interest in Mykhaylo Mudryk during an appearance on the House of Champions Podcast.

The Gunners were strongly connected with a bid for the Ukrainian during the summer transfer window, but they ultimately decided not to pursue a deal.

Mudryk has excelled in the Champions League since then, and Romano asserts that his price tag has since doubled.

According to the journalist’s sources at Shakhtar, Arsenal is still interested in the winger, although no official offer has been made.

Romano imparted his knowledge regarding the young player. “He would love to go to the Premier League, that is not a secret. He would love to go, he was dreaming of Premier League football when Everton offered in August, Bournemouth have been interested as have Brentford,” Romano said.

“Arsenal have been interested. In August they wanted him they had negotiations agent but no official bid in August because Shakhtar wanted more than €45m or €50m, but now it is way more than this. I understand it is more than €60/€65m for Mudryk to move in January.

“My sources at Shakhtar Donetsk tell me that there is no bid on the table, they say that ‘we know about the interest, we know they are keen on Mudryk in the future, but no official bid.’ It is on Arsenal now, the player would be open to moving in January because he wants a new experience in a new club.”

If Mudryk is actually going to cost more than €60 million, then Arsenal must seek elsewhere.

Yes, he is an exceptionally gifted player, but would he ever start for Arsenal?

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are two of the Gunners’ most valuable players, and when you pay this much for a player, you expect them to be more than simply a backup.

If Arsenal wants a player to employ when Saka and Martinelli are injured or need a rest, then they should be able to find someone for considerably cheap.
