“There to be broken”- Tottenham forward Harry Kane pinpoints next goals record to be shattered
Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur asserts that Alan Shearer’s 260-goal record is “there to be broken.”
Harry Kane needs 60 Premier League goals to equal Alan Shearer’s record of 260.
For years, the Newcastle United legend’s record almost seemed unbreakable.
Wayne Rooney spent nearly his entire professional career with Manchester United and Everton in the Premier League.
However, he still managed to score 208 goals, 52 fewer than Shearer. Kane is currently eight goals shy of Rooney’s total and is only 29 years old.
Additionally, he is one goal away from surpassing the latter’s record of 53 goals for the England national team – a record that still stands.
On Sunday, in Spurs’ 1-0 victory over Manchester City, he scored his 200th career Premier League goal, becoming just the third player in league history to reach that mark (February 5).
That was also his 267th goal for the Lilywhites, surpassing Jimmy Greaves’ record of 266 goals for the club in all competitions.
Kane was asked about Shearer’s record after his historic achievement, to which he responded (per Evening Standard): “It’s always there in the back of my mind but I just take it game by game, season by season. It’s definitely there to be broken and I’m feeling good and feeling fit, so we’ll see what happens.
It’s been an amazing journey. I’ve been here since I was 11 years old, it’s 18 years of my life – a lot of hard work and dedication.”
There is a good chance Kane will surpass Shearer’s record and even reach 300 goals if he continues to play for Tottenham for the remainder of his career. That will, of course, be our ultimate goal.
