“There are whispers” – Journalist now claims Arsenal player might not play again for Arsenal this season

According to Tom Canton, a journalist for Football.London, Takehiro Tomiyasu, who plays for Arsenal, may miss the remainder of the season due to an injury.

Tomiyasu, a Japanese player, began playing for the Gunners in the Europa League last-16 second leg match against Sporting CP on March 16, starting as a defender on the right side of the pitch. However, he was substituted after just nine minutes of play due to being injured on the field.

The match between Arsenal and Sporting CP ended in a 2-2 draw after extra time, with both teams having a total of 3-3 aggregate goals, but Arsenal lost in a penalty shootout.

After the game, Tomiyasu was spotted leaving the Emirates stadium on crutches, which is not a positive sign.

According to Canton, there are rumors that the 24-year-old player may not be able to play for the rest of the season due to his injury. Canton shared this information on The Gooner Talk YouTube channel (as reported by The Boot Room).

Tomiyasu was spotted leaving the Emirates stadium on crutches, which is not a positive sign.

“We did suffer some frustrating injuries. Tomiyasu could be out for the rest of the season is my understanding on that which is a really frustrating one. They are still awaiting the final assessment of that, but there are whispers that the assessment of his knee is not great. Maybe the scan will reveal that it’s not as bad as many fear it will be.”

Fortunately for manager Mikel Arteta, Ben White is not injured and can play as a replacement for Tomiyasu, as he is capable of playing both as a right-back and central defender.

Like Tomiyasu, White has experience playing in the right-back position and has been preferred over the former Bologna player by Arteta.

Nonetheless, Tomiyasu’s absence will be felt as he has been an important backup option for Arsenal in the defensive department, having played 31 matches for the club across various competitions, including 21 in the Premier League.

What Mikel Arteta said after Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu’s injury vs Sporting

Following the loss against Sporting CP, manager Mikel Arteta expressed his concern about the injury suffered by Arsenal’s Takehiro Tomiyasu. The former Manchester City assistant manager was quoted by the Evening Standard as saying:

“Tomiyasu looks pretty serious from his reaction straight after and what he said to me, but obviously, it’s very early.”

Arsenal are currently in the running for the Premier League title, holding a five-point lead over second-placed Manchester City. With only 11 games left to play this season for both teams, the Gunners may have a chance to win their first league trophy since 2004.

As Arsenal are not participating in any cup competitions, they have the luxury of focusing solely on the Premier League. Their next game will be against Crystal Palace, which will take place at Selhurst Park on Sunday (March 19).

However, the Eagles will have a new coach in their dugout, with Paddy McCarthy, the head coach of their U21s team, leading the team after Patrick Vieira was sacked on March 17.
