“There are very few like him” – Barcelona manager Xavi praises 28-year-old Man City ace ‘who makes a difference’ amid talks of a big-money transfer

Xavi Hernandez, the manager of Barcelona, has heaped praise on Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, amid rumours linking the Portuguese to a move to Camp Nou.

Few players can have the same impact as Xavi, according to the 28-year-old.

Silva has been a standout player for the club over the years, scoring 49 goals and providing 51 assists in 254 games across all competitions.

He has been instrumental in the club winning four Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and four EFL Cups.

The Portugal international had a strong 2021-22 season, scoring 13 goals and assisting seven times in 50 appearances across all competitions.

He has maintained his strong form in the Premier League, scoring once and assisting once in three games.

His performances have piqued the interest of Barcelona, who appear eager to sign him before the transfer window closes.

The Catalan giants have strengthened their attack by signing Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich and Raphinha from Leeds United, respectively. With the additions of Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde from Chelsea and Sevilla, respectively, their back line appears to be just as strong.

They signed Franck Kessie to strengthen their midfield, but they are hoping to add Silva to their squad to add some creativity in the middle of the park.

However, Xavi has stated that Barcelona’s pursuit of Silva is contingent on City.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Spaniard stated:

“Who doesn’t like Bernardo Silva? And De Bruyne or Haaland. Bernardo’s key player for City, who makes a difference. I like him, because there are very few like him, but that depends on Manchester City.”

According to Diario AS, City values Silva at €100 million.

Due to their dire financial situation, Barcelona may struggle to meet the asking price of the reigning Premier League champions. Due to a lack of funds, the Catalan giants have yet to register new signing Kounde.

During his five seasons with the club, Silva has been an important member of Pep Guardiola’s squad.

In midfield, the Portuguese has formed a formidable partnership with Kevin de Bruyne.

His versatility as a central midfielder, winger, and makeshift striker has made him a valuable asset to the club.

With only a week until the summer transfer window closes, Guardiola’s side may struggle to find an adequate replacement for the 27-year-old.

In addition, the club has already parted ways with several key players, including Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The Premier League giants are unlikely to consider selling another of their prized assets this summer. As a result, Barcelona may have a difficult time luring Silva away from the Etihad Stadium.
