The total points Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool can afford to drop in PL title contest based on last five Man City seasons

Liverpool have made a poor start to the Premier League, and there is little room for error.

The Reds have drawn both of their opening two games, drawing with Fulham and Crystal Palace.

Jurgen Klopp’s side came from behind twice against the Cottagers but only managed a draw, while they fought back with 10-men to draw 1-1 with Palace.

Crucially, Darwin Nunez was sent off in the second of those games, and the marquee signing will now miss at least three games due to suspension.

Liverpool is already four points behind Manchester City, who have been flawless in their first two games.

Even though it is early in the season, City appear unstoppable with Erling Haaland and an already strong squad.

Liverpool had a fantastic season last year, but they fell just short of City.

With that in mind, and Liverpool’s poor start, we’ve calculated how many points the Reds can afford to drop if they want to win the – current era – Premier League title for the second time.

City has had an incredible five-year run, winning the last two Premier League titles and four of the last five.

During that time, City has amassed a whopping 260 points, averaging a whopping 91.6 points per season.

Given the 38-game schedule, each team has 114 points available in each season, which means that City has only dropped 22.4 points per season over the last five games on average.

Of course, football does not always adhere to scripts and averages, but given how strong City appears, they are unlikely to lose more than 22 points this season.

Liverpool, on the other hand, has already dropped four points and is still far from the most difficult parts of the season.
