‘The referee should stop,’ Frustrated Bruno Fernandes criticises referee after Real Sociedad win
Bruno Fernandes criticized Real Sociedad’s time-wasting following their loss to Manchester United, stating that referee Georgi Kabakov lacked control over the delay tactics.
United defeated Anoeta by a score of 1-0 at the Anoeta Stadium, but it was not enough to supplant the La Liga club and finish first in the Europa League group.
Real Sociedad now advances through to the round of 16 in March, but Manchester United must play a play-off in February against a third-place finisher from the Champions League, which includes Barcelona and Juventus.
United needed to win by two goals to finish in first place, and when Alejandro Garnacho scored his first goal for the club in the 17th minute, they appeared to be on pace.
After that, Erik ten Hag’s squad failed to produce chances, and La Real began to reduce the pace of the game in the second half.
These tactics angered Fernandes, who believed the referee was too slow to realize what was happening and that the result favored the home team. He also believed that more than five minutes should have been added on.
“The frustration was that their team stopped the game so many times, they waste time, the referee gave them the chance to do that when he knew it was enough for them,” Fernandes told MUTV.
“The referee should stop that before and they waste too much time for only five added minutes. But it’s not because of that we don’t win with a two-goal difference. We won the game, we have to keep the positive energy we have.”
