The lawyer overseeing the independent commission on Manchester City Financial Fair Play breaches is an Arsenal fan
The attorney in charge of the independent commission investigating alleged Financial Fair Play violations by Manchester City is an Arsenal fan according to The Daily Star.
Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur prevented Pep Guardiola’s squad from gaining ground on Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
If Arsenal win their game in hand, the gap between City and Mikel Arteta’s squad will increase to eight points. City currently trail Arsenal by five points.
However, City’s woes on the field may soon worsen, as the Premier League recently announced that the club has been charged with more than 100 alleged financial regulations violations.
And the individual tasked with overseeing the independent commission on City’s affairs is an Arsenal fan.
Barrister Murray Rosen KC is the new chairman of the independent commission investigating City.
He will also be responsible for appointing other panel members who could very well deduct points from City.
Rosen, however, is a passionate Arsenal fan, whereas members of the King’s Counsel are considered too experienced to be influenced by external events and voices.
“He is a strong believer in fairness and in the power and benefits of sport and has a keen appreciation of its social, political and financial aspects,” Rosen’s profile on the 4 New Square chambers wrote. “He has participated in sport all his life, is a member of the MCC and Arsenal FC, and still regularly plays real tennis and ping pong.
“His knowledge of the sports scene and the issues which arise, both commercial and regulatory, in relation to the governance of sport, and its competitions and events, makes him a sympathetic hands-on tribunal chairman and a successful mediator.
“He has recently initiated an ad hoc working party consulting and reporting on the Impact of Covid-19 on sport disputes resolution procedures, supported and published by LawinSport.”
The allegations against City date back to the 2009-10 season and continue through the 2017-18 season.
