The games Aaron Ramsdale will miss as possible return date is revealed in Arsenal feared top 4 latest setback

Aaron Ramsdale’s absence from Arsenal’s matchday squad was one of the few negatives to emerge from Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over Aston Villa.

Since establishing himself as the Gunners’ indisputable number one goalkeeper following the September international break – less than a month after completing his £24m summer signing – the 23-year-old had made 24 consecutive Premier League starts.

Unfortunately, that pattern has been interrupted, with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitting Ramsdale’s absence against Villa was due to a hip injury received three days earlier against Liverpool.

“He wasn’t confident in the last 50 or 60 minutes against Liverpool,” Arteta explained. “We scanned him and he had a proper injury and a sore muscle. He wanted to be here but as soon as he realised he couldn’t play he wanted to be here to support Bernd which shows you the kind of character he is.”

The length of Ramsdale’s absence has not to be confirmed by Arsenal, but what is definite is that he will not be teaming up with the England squad in the coming days, denying him the chance to replace Jordan Pickford as Gareth Southgate’s no.1.

“Yes, he won’t be able to play for England,” Arteta revealed following the win over Villa. As a result, the two games Ramsdale will definitely miss are the Three Lions’ friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.

Having said that, Ramsdale could be back in time for Arsenal’s game against Crystal Palace at the start of next month, which would be a significant boost for the club.

In the midst of the news that he will be sidelined for ‘a few weeks,’ Premier Injuries believes a possible return date for the goalkeeper is April 4 – the day the Gunners go to Selhurst Park.

The fact that Ramsdale was celebrating with his substitute Bernd Leno after the Villa win suggests that his hip injury isn’t too significant and that the aforementioned potential comeback date is a feasible timetable.

However, if he has a relapse in training or a ‘few weeks’ turns into three to four weeks on the sidelines, he will be questionable for Arsenal’s crucial games against Chelsea and Manchester United on April 20 and April 23, respectively.
