‘The best’: Antonio Conte raves about 24-year-old Arsenal star

Sunday’s North London Derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur was won by Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who earned praise from many, including Spurs manager Antonio Conte.

This season, the 24-year-old Englishman’s performances have flown under the radar because almost all of Arsenal’s outfielders have played out of their skin.

On Sunday, Ramsdale displayed his class with arguably his best performance in an Arsenal jersey.

Everyone has been raving about Ramsdale since Sunday’s North London Derby.

The Englishman made a total of seven saves. xG metrics indicate that an average goalkeeper would have conceded at least two goals from those shots, but the Arsenal player kept a clean sheet and was awarded Man of the Match.

Conte described Ramsdale as “fantastic” immediately following Sunday’s game, while Dejan Kulusevski, Gary Neville, and Clinton Morrison have also praised him.

Yesterday, the Tottenham manager addressed the media prior to his team’s match against Manchester City. He would have rewatched the match, and in response to a question about Spurs, he praised Ramsdale’s performance once more, calling him the ‘best player on the field’ on Sunday.

He said, as per Football London: “What I can say is that usually when you lose the game, it means the opponent showed to be stronger than you.

“And then it can happen in the game like against Arsenal that their goalkeeper (Ramsdale) was the best player on the pitch and we lost.

“In my opinion the performance was good and in the game against Crystal Palace we won the game and the performance good. But you know that when there is a loss it’s difficult, I don’t like to justify, because you lost the game.”
