‘That’s the current feeling’: PL club are actually ready to sell their £60m defender to Arsenal now
There have been strong rumors linking Arsenal with a potential signing of Joao Cancelo from Manchester City in the upcoming summer transfer window. It appears that the Gunners are aware of the conditions required to secure his services.
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, has already successfully recruited two players, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, from the Premier League champions. Their performances for Arsenal have been outstanding, which likely explains Arteta’s interest in another potential acquisition from Manchester City.
Cancelo’s future at his current club seems uncertain, hence why Arsenal is considering him. Dean Jones has now shared the latest updates regarding this situation on GiveMeSport.
Manchester City are ready to sell Joao Cancelo to Arsenal
Pep Guardiola likely did not anticipate Arsenal, after acquiring Jesus and Zinchenko from Manchester City, would pose such a strong challenge for the Premier League title. The presence of these former City players brought about a remarkable transformation in Arteta’s team, completely altering their performance compared to the previous season, as evident from their results.
To further enhance Arsenal’s winning mindset, Arteta’s ideal strategy would involve securing the services of another high-caliber player from Manchester City, following the successful blueprint established by Jesus and Zinchenko’s arrival.
Cancelo is considered a highly desirable choice, and despite Arsenal being direct competitors with Manchester City, it seems that Guardiola is willing to allow the Portuguese player to join them if they are willing to pay the requested amount.
Jones said: “Obviously Cancelo is one of those and there is already understanding at Arsenal of what it would take to sign him from City.
“If Arsenal are willing to pay up then City would not block the move, that’s the current feeling. It’s a stance they have held in the past and does not seem to be swayed by the fact Arsenal ran them closest in the title race this season.”
After a loan spell at Bayern Munich, Cancelo successfully won the Bundesliga during the latter half of the season. While Bayern has the option to permanently sign the Portuguese player for approximately £60 million, it is unlikely that they will exercise that option this summer.
This situation presents an opportunity for clubs like Arsenal to pursue Cancelo, and according to Jones’ statement, Manchester City is willing to let him rejoin Arteta at the Emirates.
Nonetheless, it remains uncertain whether Arsenal will have the financial means to pursue Cancelo after securing their other primary targets during this summer transfer window.
