‘That’s going to be massive’ – Charles Watts is ecstatic about what is about to ‘officially’ happen at Arsenal
According to journalist Charles Watts, Arsenal will receive a “huge” boost with Gabriel Jesus joining the club before preseason even begins.
Some of the club’s players returned to London Colney ahead of the new season earlier this week, albeit not every member of the first-team squad was present due to their international engagements (via football.london).
They will, however, travel to America in July, where the entire senior team is expected to compete in the more critical preseason games.
Watts explained on his own YouTube channel that Jesus, who is ‘one step away’ from joining, will benefit greatly from entering early in the summer rather than later in the club’s preparations.
He explained himself, saying (6:16): “We are, like I said, just one step away now from Gabriel Jesus being officially an Arsenal player. And getting him on board now before preseason, before they go away to the United States.
“And that’s going to be massive. It’s going to give him time to bed-in, to adjust to his new surroundings, build up a rapport with his teammates.
“So many times we’ve seen Arsenal be lackadaisical almost in their approach to the transfer window – leave it too late, rush everyone in and the end. And it’s taken a while to adjust.”
Arsenal has certainly left certain transfers until the final minute in the past.
Indeed, when they bought Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid in 2020, they left it so late that the player had no idea how the trade would be completed in time.
Of course, the Ghanaian didn’t get to enjoy a preseason with the team, and he actually missed the first four games of the season before injuries forced him to miss the rest (via Transfermarkt).
If Partey had spent the entire preseason with the Gunners, perhaps his debut season would have gone more smoothly.
This could have been on Watts’ mind when he composed his latest Jesus statements
Without a doubt, once the Brazilian officially signs, he will aim to prepare as well as possible for the new season – and it appears that this transfer early in the summer might offer him a significant boost.
