Ten Hag reveals what he has asked Christian Eriksen to do in Man Utd midfield in Arsenal win

Erik ten Hag believes Christian Eriksen’s presence in the  Manchester United  midfield has benefited Bruno Fernandes this season.

After Eriksen’s false start as a false nine against Brighton, the duo have built a good chemistry in midfield, starting all six Premier League games for Manchester United this season.

Eriksen was involved in all three goals in Sunday’s victory over Arsenal, earning man-of-the-match honors, and he has played more minutes than any other new arrival this season.

Fernandes provided an assist for Marcus Rashford’s second goal against the Gunners and had scored in his previous two outings, indicating a return to form this year.

Ten Hag is pleased with the duo’s chemistry and the scoring danger they pose for United.

“Bruno Fernandes gets support [from Christian], he can also pass the final ball, receive the final ball, the togetherness they really suit together,” said the United boss.

Eriksen has been given leeway in United’s midfield, as Scott McTominay has started four consecutive games in the holding midfield position, and he has been a trusted lieutenant for Ten Hag, having played all but eight minutes of United’s Premier League campaign to date.

“We put him a little more down on the pitch, like a six, eight role, he has a lot of freedom, he has to interchange with the spaces where he has to be and the rest have to adapt to that,” said Ten Hag.

“He can make a game for you, make the switch of play, he sees a pass between the lines, make the final pass and go into attack to score a goal. He can improve his defence, when he plays like today one small mistake, we’ll give him that, he played a magnificent game.”
