‘Still the same’: Ten Hag reveals two Manchester United stars wont play against Brentford

Erik ten Hag has spoken about Anthony Martial and Victor Lindelof’s fitness ahead of  Manchester United  game against Brentford.

Ten Hag spoke to the club’s official website before his press conference and stated that both players would be unavailable.

Despite having played in pre-season, the pair did not appear in the opening weekend defeat at home to Brighton.

Ten Hag was also asked about the pair during his press conference, and he confirmed that the injury situation remained unchanged.

“It’s still the same,” he told the club site when questioned for an update on team news ahead of the Brentford clash.

He also spoke about a behind closed doors friendly win over Halifax, adding: “I don’t like them being behind closed doors but it was behind and we needed all the players to get the minutes in the legs.

“Of course it’s best to get that in the league, but we have a squad and we need the squad. We need double positions and of course they can also show their capabilities to me and to the team, and get to the right fitness levels and work hard. That’s the most important thing.”

In front of the press, he said: “(Martial) will not be available. Victor Lindelof as well, not for this weekend.”

Martial, in particular, impressed during preseason before suffering a hamstring injury in the final friendly against Atletico Madrid.

That was always the worry, that his good summer form wouldn’t carry over when the serious stuff began.

With the arrival of Lisandro Martinez, Lindelof has fallen down the pecking order at the heart of the defense and must now wait for his chance to shine.

United must regain their winning ways in west London and get back on track after a disastrous start against Brighton.
