The current Tottenham Hotspur manager, Antonio Conte, is currently recovering from gallbladder surgery and is unable to actively participate in managing the team.

However, despite still being in Italy, he is still very much involved in the team’s preparations for their matches.

During their recent Tottenham game against West Ham United, Assistant Manager Cristian Stellini took over Conte’s duties on the touchline and helped the team secure a crucial 2-0 win.

Stellini has since disclosed that Conte played a significant role in preparing the team for the game despite his absence.

Speaking after the match, he said (h/t Daily Mail): “He was completely involved in the preparation of the match. We transferred to Antonio during the week all the sensations, all the feelings, are the players fit? We decide together about the squad and the preparation of the game.”

However, Conte’s ability to provide instructions to the team during the game will be restricted due to his absence. Stellini further added:

“Not directly but we will have for sure some messages from Antonio… [He will be] involved to send us a message or something like this.”

According to Stellini, he is more than capable of handling the team in Conte’s absence. The former Juventus and Italy national team manager is expected to return to the Spurs dugout before their second leg of the UEFA Champions League round-of-16 match against AC Milan.

There was some surprise when Son Heung-min was named on the bench against West Ham United, but he came on to score a crucial goal to secure the win.

It is not clear who made the decision to rest Son, but it turned out to be a wise one. With a packed schedule of games, it is important to rest more players, including Harry Kane, who has been playing consistently for both club and country this season.
