Stan Kroenke and Arsenal may have dodged Mykhailo Mudryk transfer bullet

Despite weeks of talks with Shakhtar Donetsk, Arsenal was unsuccessful in their attempts to sign Mykhailo Mudryk during the January transfer window.

The Gunners were looking to strengthen their attacking options for the second half of the season, and Mudryk was identified as Edu Gaspar’s top target after his impressive performances in the UEFA Champions League.

However, despite the player’s desire to move, Arsenal’s two bids were rejected by Shakhtar throughout the window. In the end, Chelsea won the transfer race by paying £88 million for Mudryk’s services.

While Arsenal were considering whether to pay the requested transfer fee, Chelsea and Todd Boehly didn’t waste any time and promptly met the demand. Mudryk traveled to England and was announced as a Chelsea player during their Premier League match against Crystal Palace.

Since joining Chelsea, Mudryk has played in five matches but has had a hard time finding his form and hasn’t been able to score or provide an assist.

He was left on the bench for the game against Southampton after starting in the previous three matches, but his presence wasn’t enough to prevent a surprising defeat against the league’s lowest-ranked team.

A recent statistic shared by Sky Sports could bring some satisfaction to Arsenal fans. Mudryk, who is 22 years old, gave away possession 20 times during the 40 minutes he played as a substitute, which is the highest number ever recorded for a second-half substitute in the Premier League.

This statistic highlights the challenges that Mudryk has faced in adjusting to the Premier League. Although Arsenal was interested in signing him, they ultimately chose to sign Leandro Trossard, who has already made a positive impact on Arteta’s team. Therefore, for Arsenal, it was a fortunate decision to pass on signing Mudryk.
