Spurs star suffers season ending injury ahead of Champions League clash

Rodrigo Bentancur is expected to miss the next six months after suffering a major knee injury on Saturday against Leicester City.

Even though Bentancur scored after only 14 minutes, Tottenham were defeated 4-1 at the King Power.

But the midfielder’s afternoon was cut short when he was taken off with an injury, though he was able to walk off the field, with assistant manager Cristian Stellini stating, “We know that he feels pain, he can walk, so we have to wait a bit of time to check and understand what happened.

“We hope he feels better in a few days, and we can have him back soon.”

However, it has been claimed that the 25-year-old has severely damaged his ACL, and he is not anticipated to return to the field until at least August.

Bentancur has been one of Tottenham’s greatest players this season, with five goals and two assists in the league. When he has been out, the north London club has been significantly weaker.

It has left Antonio Conte with a significant selection dilemma for Tuesday night’s Champions League match against AC Milan.

Bentancur’s normal midfield partner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is suspended, and Yves Bissouma is also sidelined after undergoing surgery for an ankle ailment. The Mali international has no estimated recovery date.

This leaves Conte with the young duo of Pape Matar Sarr and Oliver Skipp, who have started a total seven games this season across all competitions.

Hugo Lloris, the goalie and captain for Tottenham, is now sidelined and is expected to remain out of action until April.

They will visit London rivals West Ham the following Sunday as they aim to get their Premier League season back on track after their trip to Milan.

Spurs are presently fifth in the league, two points behind fourth-place Newcastle, who have played one more game than Spurs.
