Spurs set sights on ‘jaw-dropping’ £23m keeper who’s ‘even better than Donnarumma’

According to La Repubblica, Tottenham Hotspur has set their sights on Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret.

The Spurs are reportedly searching for Hugo Lloris’ long-term replacement.

Unfortunately, the Tottenham goalkeeper’s season has been marred by a number of high-profile errors.

Spurs will need to consider a successor for the France legend Lloris, who is now 36 years old.

And La Repubblica, via Calcio Napoli 24 and  Sport Witness, reports that Tottenham is monitoring Meret.

The outlet claims Spurs are ‘desiring’ Meret, but bringing him to N17 will be difficult.

This is due to the fact that the 25-year-old has “already decided on his future,” which appears to be with Napoli.

Meret apparently wants to win the title with his club before signing a new contract.

Obviously, nothing in football is straightforward, and the transfer window is no exception.

Who knows what could happen if Tottenham can convince Meret of their case.

If Spurs are able to acquire him, they will acquire one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Meret has been outstanding for Napoli this season, recording 10 clean sheets in Serie A and the Champions League.

‘Capable of jaw-dropping stops, his quick reaction skills and good decision making are the money-makers’, Breaking the Lines has written.

In most cases, the £23 million Udinese acquisition would be a regular for his national team.

Gianluigi Donnarumma is currently impeding Meret’s path in Italy’s starting lineup.

Nonetheless, some believe Meret is superior to the Paris Saint-Germain star.

Luca Marchegiani, a former goalkeeper for Lazio, is one of these individuals.

“Napoli had doubt about Meret, but I’ve never had,” Marchegiani told Sky Sport Italia – via Football Italia – following Napoli’s 2-1 win over Milan at San Siro last September.

“He lacks a bit of experience, but to me, he is one of the best Italian goalkeepers, even better than Donnarumma.”
