Spurs player Djed Spence handed strange shirt number on loan
Djed Spence was oddly assigned the number 90 jersey after completing a loan transfer to Rennes on transfer deadline day.
Although it was expected that Spence would be loaned out to make room for Pedro Porro, it came as a surprise that he and North London chose Rennes as his destination.
A multitude of Premier League clubs, including Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Southampton, West Ham United, Middlesbrough, and Burnley, were believed to be interested in the 22-year-old (90 min).
Alasdair Gold explained on Wednesday that the Premier League clubs interested in Spence demanded an option or obligation to buy as part of the loan agreement, which neither the player nor Tottenham desired.
The journalist added that the England Under-21 international turned down several clubs, including Sassuolo and Atletico Madrid, in favor of Rennes.
Spence will wear the number 90 shirt during his six-month stay in France, it has been revealed.

Predictably, many Spurs supporters on social media made the same joke, stating that it was great to see the young player finally play the full 90 minutes (The Sun).
The 22-year-old would have benefited from training with world-class players and working with Antonio Conte and his coaching staff.
Spence’s development would have been hindered by spending the last six months on the bench following his breakthrough season at Forest.
Now, he has an excellent opportunity to demonstrate to Conte that he is ready to compete for a starting position in the starting lineup by playing in France.
