Spurs one step closer to stunning Nagelsmann swoop as report confirmed
Bayern Munich has announced that Thomas Tuchel will be taking over as their new manager after Julian Nagelsmann was fired.
News of Nagelsmann’s departure started circulating on Thursday night.
Nagelsmann had been signed for a then-world record fee two years ago from RB Leipzig.
However, Bayern Munich’s recent run of form in the Bundesliga has not been as dominant, and they have fallen behind Borussia Dortmund in the race for the title.
Reports of internal problems within the team came to a head this week, leading to the decision to replace the manager.
A short Bayern statement announced: “This decision was taken by CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic in consultation with club president Herbert Hainer.”
In addition to Julian Nagelsmann, the assistant coaches Dino Toppmoller, Benjamin Gluck, and Xaver Zembrod have also left Bayern Munich.
The club has appointed Thomas Tuchel, who is 49 years old, as their new manager, and he has signed a contract that runs until the summer of 2025.
He will begin his training duties on Monday and will lead the team in their upcoming match against Dortmund on Saturday.
Tuchel previously coached Borussia, where he won the German Cup in 2017, and has also had stints at Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
It is reported that Tottenham was interested in Tuchel to replace Antonio Conte, but they have had to look for other options.
The path is now officially clear for the north London club to make an approach for Nagelsmann, fueling rumors linking him to the club.
Two years ago, Spurs pursued the former Leipzig manager before he agreed to coach Munich.
