Antonio Conte reveals why he’s ‘failed’ to win a trophy at Tottenham
Antonio, the manager of Tottenham, has stated that he has been working to instill a winning mindset in the team since taking charge in 2021.
However, the team’s recent performances have not reflected this, as they were eliminated from the FA Cup by Championship side Sheffield United earlier this month, after suffering a similar fate in the previous season against second-tier Middlesbrough.
Tottenham’s exit from the Champions League against AC Milan was disappointing, leading to frustration among fans and calls for the manager’s departure. Despite this setback, it’s worth noting that Antonio Conte has achieved success in his previous managerial stints, winning trophies with Juventus and Chelsea. Moreover, he recently led Inter Milan to their first Serie A title in a decade.
Antonio Conte’s contract with Tottenham is set to expire at the end of the season, and there are no indications that it will be renewed. Conte has expressed his disappointment at the possibility of leaving the club without ending their trophy drought.
He told reporters ahead of the game against Southampton: “For sure, in my mind and in my heart there is always the will to lift the trophy. For this reason since I arrived in Tottenham I tried to push the total environment in the right direction.
“But, as I said to you before, I understood that to reach an important level, to gain a win, there is a path you have to go down together and to move down this path it needs us all to work a lot.
“We have to learn to live with pressure and we need to learn to live with the stress, to learn to live with the fatigue of the situation because I have never seen in my life a team that lifts a trophy without pressure, stress and fatigue.
“But, for sure in my mind and in my heart I have always had this ambition and I have tried to transfer this feeling to the club.
“After a year and half we have improved many aspects but we need to continue to work on this path – and sometimes during this path, I think we’ve failed.
“We failed because we are not ready to face the right pressure and stress and this aspect I think we are working on.
“But for sure the team and this club I think it’s going in the right direction and the work we are doing is important work, and the club can see this.
“We can develop a lot in the future but, I repeat, I understand the fans are frustrated because they don’t see us… but at the same time I can tell them we are working very hard to make them proud and to try to bring this club to be optimistic for the future and be ready to lift trophies.”
Real Madrid enter Harry Kane transfer race
According to Daily Mail, Madrid has joined the list of clubs interested in Kane before the summer transfer window.
They have already explored the option of acquiring the services of the English captain and feel that Tottenham Hotspur would prefer to sell him overseas instead of strengthening a Premier League competitor.
If Kane does not sign a new contract with his current team, Madrid may try to negotiate a pre-contract with him in January, allowing him to join the Spanish side on a free transfer the following summer.
Madrid is considering multiple strikers, and they are reportedly planning to offer Karim Benzema a new one-year contract. Additionally, they may revive their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe after the current season ends. It’s worth noting that Kane’s contract with Spurs is set to expire in 2024.
Roberto De Zerbi to Tottenham?
Paul Merson has commended Roberto De Zerbi’s accomplishments at Brighton and believes that Tottenham Hotspur might attempt to lure the Italian away from his current club during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Paul Merson has a high opinion of Roberto De Zerbi and thinks that the remainder of the season will serve as a tryout for even greater opportunities in the future.
“I consider Brighton to be major players in both the FA Cup and the race for Champions League football,” he wrote in The Daily Star. “That’s how highly I rate the work of Roberto De Zerbi.
“Tottenham will be watching the Italian in Brighton’s final stretch of the season, there is no doubt about it. They will want to see how he fares under pressure.”
Despite his admiration for De Zerbi, Paul Merson believes that the Italian has brought a fresh and valuable perspective to Brighton’s style of play and tactics, making him a desirable target for other clubs. As a result, Merson thinks that De Zerbi is now in high demand and could be considering other job opportunities.
“If De Zerbi delivers between now and the end of May, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him offered the Tottenham job ahead of Mauricio Pochettino,” he added.
“Before De Zerbi came in and Potter was in charge, Brighton were one of the best teams I’ve seen from box-to-box – they just couldn’t finish their dinner.
“Now they have been taken to another level, they’re ripping teams apart and they’re still generating top talent.”
