Spurs facing to major suspension issue with three stars ahead of Man Utd showdown
Tottenham’s discipline will be put to the test against Manchester United on Wednesday night, with three players facing a one-match ban after receiving two bookings.
With so many fixtures on the horizon, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, and Harry Kane will all be cautioned.
Tottenham have had a strong start to the season, winning seven of their first ten Premier League games and losing only one.
They are third in the table, level on points with Manchester City (23), with fierce rivals Arsenal leading the table on 27.
However, if suspensions begin to affect Antonio Conte’s team, they may struggle in the coming weeks.
This season, his team has received 19 yellow cards, the seventh-most in the league, as well as one red card.
Tottenham averages 10.7 fouls per game, which explains why there is growing concern that they will be without several key players in the future.
Tottenham’s biggest loss would be Kane, who is the club’s top scorer with nine goals in ten appearances.
Bentancur has also been instrumental in Spurs’ success this season, forming a strong partnership in the center of the park with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The duo has impressed not only with their attacking output, but also with how well they have shielded their defense.
Conte has recently used a 3-5-2 formation and had success with it, with the switch giving his team enough control in midfield to secure a 2-0 win over Everton last weekend.
The introduction of Bissouma, who replaced the injured Richarlison, allowed Bentancur and Hojbjerg to roam forward, with the latter scoring Spurs’ second.
Bissouma, on the other hand, could be suspended again if he receives two more bookings.
The former Brighton playmaker has had to be patient while waiting for opportunities in north London, but his recent performances may have earned him a more permanent place in Conte’s plans.
Speaking about how his side have performed this season, Conte said: “I think compared to last season, you can see more stability in this team. In every game, we go into the pitch with the will, with the desire that there is the possibility to get three points and win the game.
“Then it can happen in one game, like Arsenal, that you can lose but in every game, I think my players feel the possibility to try to fight to get three points. This has to be our target in every game to make difficult the life of our opponent.”
