Son Heung-min breaks silence on Antonio Conte’s Tottenham exit after Daniel Levy sack decision
Son Heung-min, a top player for Tottenham, has shared his thoughts on the departure of Antonio Conte as manager.
During the international break, Spurs and Conte reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract before the end of the season. Ryan Mason and Cristian Stellini will lead the team until the end of the season, with Julian Nagelsmann potentially taking over after that.
Following his dismissal, Conte thanked supporters for their appreciation of his passion for football.
Son’s teammate, Dejan Kulusevski, expressed sadness at the departure of the Italian but acknowledged that the players must support Levy’s decision and move forward.
After leading Tottenham Hotspur for only 16 months, Conte has departed from the club, and Son Heung-min has now shared his thoughts on the matter. Following South Korea’s friendly match against Uruguay, the 30-year-old striker spoke to Korean media and delivered his verdict on Conte’s exit.
Son said: “I’m very sorry to him [Conte].
“He is a World-class manager, we had great journey together, I thank him a lot. I do not know how other players are thinking about him, but I’m sorry to him.
“I should have shown more but I couldn’t. I couldn’t help the team and I feel responsible as he left the club.
“He surely has great ability and experience as a coach and I’m sure he’ll have great success in his other career. Coming back to Spurs, I wish to finish the rest of the season in a great way with my teammates, for our club.”
Tottenham has just 10 games remaining this season as they look to qualify for the Champions League by finishing in the top four. Son has experienced a rough season and will be aiming to rediscover his goal-scoring touch after scoring only six Premier League goals this year.
