Solskjaer told to cash on Pogba amid claim Man Utd star is not ‘a top player’.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been asked to cash on Paul Pogba – because he is ‘not a top player’.
Pogba’s future is yet again the subject of gambling this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain the latest club associated with a move for the France star.
The 28-year-old dazzled for his country at Euro 2020, with his performances including a wonder goal during the last-16 loss to Switzerland.
But he has often strived to replicate his best form since joining United in 2016 – leading to constant talk of a move to Real Madrid or back to his former club Juventus.
Now, with a year left on Pogba’s deal, Red Devils legend Teddy Sheringham has told his former teammate Solskjaer to cash in on the midfielder.
And the former England striker says if Pogba was a “top player”, he wouldn’t be in and out of the team at Old Trafford.

“It’s a funny situation, isn’t it?” Sheringham told The United Stand. “He’s got a year to go and could go on a free and go and get himself an absolute fortune – as if they don’t earn enough money now.
“I think if United or Ole got vibes that’s what he was trying to do, I’m sure he’d try to sell him now and get as much as he could for him.
“Whether that’s the right thing or the wrong thing… he’s sometimes played in midfield and sometimes been left out, but if you’re a top player you don’t get left out.
“It’s as simple as that. If you’re that good, you don’t get left out.”
Sheringham mentioned the example of Harry Kane, who was criticized for his plays in England’s Euro 2020 group games before paying Gareth Southgate’s faith by scoring in each of the knockout games to send the Three Lions into Sunday’s final.
“Harry Kane at England, he wasn’t going through the best period at the start of the tournament but you can’t leave him out because he’s a class player, he’s the best in his position,” said Sheringham.
The treble winner challenged the £89million United paid Juve to land Pogba five years ago, and implied they should recoup as much as they can, with PsG reportedly ready to pay in the region of £50m.
“When you look at Pogba, is he worth that much?,” said the 55-year-old.
“Without doubt he’s a talented boy, you only have to look at the goal he scored in the Euros recently.
“But there’s always question marks, there’s been question marks the last four years. He’s been there five years and there’s been question marks for four years.
“I don’t think you can keep having that conversation every time Pogba’s mentioned.
“I know you can’t please everyone but you’ve got to have support of 80% of supporters or the hierarchy to be a top player. I don’t think that’s the case.
“If you could get as much money for him now, I would, as long as you get replacements and wash your hands with the situation.”
