Solskjaer makes personal intervention to block Man Utd transfer deal

Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly blocked Diogo Dalot’s exit from Old Trafford this summer despite the defender lining up a loan move to Borussia Dortmund.

Dalot spent last term out on loan with AC Milan and it was thought he would be permitted to leave again this season to get regular minutes elsewhere.

That was certainly the suggestion he was given by his manager, who has Dalot behind first-choice right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order.

But after being an unused sub in both of United’s opening two Premier League matches this term, Dalot came off the bench in Sunday’s victory over Wolves, and Solskjaer now wants to keep him as part of his squad.

Key to the United boss’ decision is a lack of cover at right-back, having already let Brandon Williams join Norwich on loan for the rest of the season, according to The Sun.

United have reportedly been pursuing a move for Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier this summer, whose arrival would have definitely ended Dalot’s possibilities of staking a regular claim.

Trippier seems almost certain to remain with Atleti for the rest of this season however, and sanctioning Dalot’s exit as well would have left Solskjaer struggling for a replacement in the dying hours of the window.

Dalot’s ability to play in an advanced position as a wing-back, as well on the left flank, has convinced Solskjaer he still has a part to play throughout the campaign.
