Sky Sports pundit shocked and appalled by what he has seen at Liverpool: ‘I really don’t like that’.

Saturday, Liverpool matched the largest victory in Premier League history by defeating Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield.

The Reds endured a sluggish start to the new season but accelerated quickly over the weekend.

After only six minutes, Liverpool led 2-0 thanks to goals from Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott, who scored his first Premier League goal this season.

On either side of the half-hour mark, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino each added a goal.

And late in first-half stoppage time, Virgil van Dijk scored the fifth goal with a powerful header off a corner kick.

Chris Mepham scored an own goal shortly after the start of the second period.

Firmino scored the seventh goal shortly after the hour mark, and substitute Fabio Carvalho scored the eighth with 10 minutes remaining.

In the 85th minute of the match, Diaz completed the scoring with a second header.

Paul Merson, writing for Sky Sports, praised Liverpool on Saturday for returning to their “true” selves.

In addition, he predicted that Jurgen Klopp’s squad would continue in the same vein as games intensify.

Merson also criticized Bournemouth for the “embarrassing” scoreline and lamented the “incredible” disparity in quality between some league teams.

“This Premier League has got three or four leagues going on within it,” he wrote. “The gulf in class between some of the teams is unreal.

“Bournemouth have just played Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool and lost to a combined scoreline of 16-0 so it just shows you the difference between the sides is huge.

“I don’t think you should get beat 9-0. I really don’t like that.

“It’s a really embarrassing score. You are a professional football team playing in the Premier League, it shouldn’t happen.

“If you get beat 9-0 on a Sunday morning that’s big in itself. No player, professional or amateur, would like it.

“I was beaten 5-0 as a manager and five was embarrassing enough.

“When it gets to six or seven, it reminds me of the old days and the old teleprinter and they used to spell the number out.

“If someone got beat by seven, they’d spell the number out in brackets. That is how bad it is.”
