Six strikers Manchester United are interested in signing ahead of the summer transfer window

Manchester United concluded their progressive 2022/23 season with a narrow 2-1 loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday. Although the Reds were not defeated as convincingly as they were in their previous encounter at the Etihad Stadium in October, the match once again exposed the evident gap in quality between the two clubs. United must bolster their squad with more talent in various areas during the upcoming summer transfer window.

As extensively reported in recent months, United’s primary objective in the transfer market is to acquire a world-class striker, along with a central midfielder. Apart from Marcus Rashford, the team lacked a dependable goal scorer throughout the season, emphasizing the urgent need for a recognized striker.

Manager Erik ten Hag has identified several potential candidates who could enhance United’s attacking prowess, but securing their services proves to be a challenging endeavor. Acquiring a top-tier striker comes with a hefty price tag, and ideally, United would need to offload players in order to finance significant additions this summer.

With just over a week remaining until the official opening of the summer transfer window, SportsDias has examined six strikers who are on United’s radar as they prepare for the upcoming transfer activities.

Harry Kane

In March, the talented player from Tottenham Hotspur was singled out as the main priority for coach Ten Hag, and that hasn’t changed. The Dutch manager has a strong preference for the England captain to lead Manchester United’s attack in the upcoming season.

However, the club is operating on the belief that Tottenham will not agree to sell him during this summer transfer window. The player’s contract with Tottenham will end in June of next year, so this summer might be Tottenham’s final opportunity to sell him for a reasonable price.

Rasmus Hojlund

According to a recent report by the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag has engaged in several video calls with the striker from Atalanta, indicating his strong interest in acquiring him if the club’s pursuit of Kane does not succeed.

This 20-year-old player is regarded as one of the most talented strikers in European football and has already scored ten goals for Atalanta in the current season. He transferred to the Italian club from Sturm Graz in August of the previous year.

Victor Osimhen

United has been monitoring the Napoli striker as a potential target since as early as November. Besides Kane, he is arguably one of the most prominent candidates on their list of desired strikers.

At just 24 years old, this Nigerian international has shown remarkable progress, making him one of the most coveted strikers in Europe at the present moment. In the current season, he impressively scored 31 goals in 39 matches for Napoli, along with providing five assists.

Randal Kolo Muani

In recent months, Manchester United has been closely monitoring the striker from Eintracht Frankfurt, whose reputation has been rapidly growing. This player joined the Bundesliga team on a free transfer last summer and has had a fantastic debut season in Germany.

He has scored an impressive 23 goals and provided 17 assists in all competitions. Notably, he will not turn 25 until December, which means he is currently in a favorable age range for both immediate impact and long-term prospects.

Goncalo Ramos

According to a report by the Manchester Evening News in December, Ten Hag has shown a significant interest in the striker from Benfica. This 21-year-old player gained recognition during the World Cup in Qatar last year, notably scoring a hat-trick in Portugal’s 6-1 victory over Switzerland in the round of 16.

He has continued to impress at Benfica this season, scoring 27 goals in 47 matches across various competitions. However, Manchester United might opt for a more seasoned player at this stage rather than a younger prospect.

Mohammed Kudus

One player who could be seen as a less likely option is the Ajax player, who has a previous connection with Ten Hag from their time together at the Johan Cruyff Arena before the coach’s move to Old Trafford last year.

This Ghanaian international is a versatile forward, capable of playing in wide positions as well as centrally, which means he may not fit the mold of a traditional number 9 that United are seeking. However, he has demonstrated his ability to be effective in front of goal, as evidenced by his tally of 18 goals in the current season.
