Six records Erling Haaland could break this season after a sensational start at Man City

Six records Erling Haaland could break this season after a sensational start at Man City

Erling Haaland has made a strong start to his Manchester City career, scoring twice in a 5-0 Champions League win over Copenhagen on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old Norwegian striker has now scored an incredible 19 goals in his first 12 games for the Citizens, breaking a slew of records along the way.

And here are six more records he could break this season.

Most goals in a Premier League season

Andy Cole and Alan Shearer currently hold the record for most Premier League goals in a season.

Cole scored 34 goals for Newcastle in 1993/94, and Shearer did the same for Blackburn the following season.

However, both of those players scored 42 goals in a 42-game season.

Mohamed Salah of Liverpool holds the record for the most goals scored in a 38-game Premier League season, having scored 32 times in 2017/18.

Most goals in an English top-flight season

To break the record for most goals in an English Premier League season, Haaland would have to have a ridiculously prolific season.

Dixie Dean currently holds the record with 60 goals in 39 First Division games for Everton during the 1927/28 season.

However, if Haaland continues to score at his current rate, he will score 66 Premier League goals this season.

Most Premier League hat-tricks in a season

During the 1995/96 season, Alan Shearer had five hat-tricks. And Haaland, who has already scored hat-tricks against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and Manchester United, could be on his way to breaking the legendary England striker’s record.

Most consecutive Premier League goals

Jamie Vardy scored in 11 consecutive Premier League matches during Leicester’s famous Premier League title win in 2015/16.

His run began in late August with a goal against Bournemouth and ended more than three months later when he failed to score against Swansea.

Haaland has already scored in six straight games. And in the coming weeks, he could blow Vardy’s record out of the water.

Most Champions League goals in a season

Haaland will undoubtedly want to break Champions League records after scoring more goals than any other player in the competition’s first 30 appearances.

His 28 goals have come after only 22 goals, making his accomplishment all the more impressive.

Haaland may now aim to become the most prolific scorer in a Champions League season. And he will break that record if he scores 18 goals, as Cristiano Ronaldo did for Real Madrid in 2013/14.

Most goals for Manchester City in a season

Perhaps Haaland’s most straightforward record will be to surpass Tommy Johnson’s 38 goals in all competitions in 1928/29.

After all, the former Borussia Dortmund player is already 45% of the way there.
