Sir Alex Ferguson explains Manchester United’s biggest blunder against Everton
Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjear continued to struggle at home, drawing 1-1 with a weakened Everton side.
Anthony Martial, who was given a rare start for the Red Devils, gave his team the lead in the dying embers of a first half that provided little for either side.
However, in the second half, a break from a Manchester United corner saw Abdoulaye Doucoure feed Andros Townsend, who rifled in a deserved equalizer for the Toffees.
To add insult to injury for those of a red disposition, the Englishman then performed the classic Cristiano Ronaldo “Siu” celebration in front of the Everton travelling faithful.
Sir Alex Ferguson revealed to MMA legend Khabib after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Everton, which both were present for, the one mistake he felt Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made against the Toffees.
Despite being a fan of Solskjaer during his playing days, the Scot, who is regarded as Manchester United’s greatest manager of all time, was forthright in his assessment.
When speaking to Khabib, he is heard saying:
“I also think they [Everton] saw Ronaldo wasn’t playing” before Khabib interjected, “he came on in the second half”.
Not to be dissuaded, Sir Alex replied:
“I know, but you should always start with your best players”

Sir Alex clearly felt that not starting with Ronaldo (or Paul Pogba or Jadon Sancho) sent the wrong message to their opponents, who may have been more up for the game because they saw a weaker side line out against them.
