‘Showing what he’s about’: Thiago Silva admits Arsenal now have a genuinely ‘special’ star in their ranks
Takehiro Tomiyasu’s victory over Germany at yesterday’s World Cup would have thrilled Arsenal fans to no end.
Gunners stars have had a strong start to the tournament, with England’s Bukayo Saka garnering the most attention.
Thiago Silva, a defender for Chelsea, praised one of Arsenal’s young talents in an interview with the Mirror.
Today marks the start of Brazil’s World Cup campaign against Serbia.
The Selecao enters the competition as one of the favorites, especially in light of Germany and Argentina’s shocking losses.
Tite, the manager of Brazil, has access to an abundance of attacking talent that would be the envy of any nation.
Thiago Silva has spoken highly of Gabriel Martinelli, whom he considers to be an exceptional player.
Martinelli’s inclusion in the squad was a bit of a surprise, given that Tite had left him off the roster in September.
However, his performance for Arsenal earned him a spot in the squad ahead of Roberto Firmino of Liverpool.
Thiago Silva makes Martinelli special player claim
Speaking to the Mirror about Arsenal’s Brazilian forwards, Thiago Silva said: “You can see the connection they’ve had this season with Arsenal. It’s a big reason why they’re top of the Premier League.
“[Gabriel] Jesus, we’ve known about his quality for a long time, but Martinelli is really showing what he’s about.
“He’s playing without fear and, if he gets the chance to play, I don’t think it will faze him and he’ll just do what we know he can do.
“I think all attacking players at the top level need that little bit of arrogance – that they know they can do something special – and he has that.”
This season, Martinelli will wear number 26 for Brazil in Qatar.
This indicates that he may currently be lower in the pecking order.
Joe Cole has predicted that he will be one of the stars of the World Cup in four years, but he will be hoping to make an impact sooner.
His finishing has already impressed his international teammates in training.
Martinelli is obviously an exceptional player. Today, against Serbia, he may have the chance to demonstrate his talent on the world’s largest stage.
