‘Sharper and better equipped,’ Jamie Carragher snubs Erling Haaland for Arsenal player as best Premier League player this season

Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool defender turned pundit, has named Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus the best Premier League player so far this season.

Since joining the club this summer, the Brazilian has made an immediate impact, demonstrating that he has the potential to be a key player for the Gunners.

The 25-year-old was brought in to help Mikel Arteta’s goal-scoring woes after the club went without a productive centre-forward option last season.

Jesus has already scored two goals and provided three assists in his first three Premier League games this season, demonstrating his versatility.

Discussing the impact of the striker, Arteta said: “I wouldn’t like to play against him [Gabriel Jesus].

“I’ve never been a defender, but I can imagine I wouldn’t enjoy it. He’s so mobile, so intuitive, always sharp and proactive to play in any moment and phase in the game, and it’s a real threat.”

Both the club and the player will be hoping that their good form continues in their quest to return to the Champions League and possibly advance further.

Carragher has claimed that he is the best player in the Premier League so far this season, owing to his blistering start.

Writing in his Telegraph column, he said: “No matter how early it is, Arsenal look sharper and better equipped than a year ago. Gabriel Jesus could be a game-changing signing. He has been the Premier League’s best player in the first month.

“After his long loan spell, William Saliba looks to have finally joined at the right time. There was a clamour for him to come sooner. His development in France – where he won Young Player of the Year – means he is better equipped for the Premier League, adding the physique and power Arsenal needed in defence.

“It was also essential Arsenal signed another left-back in Oleksandr Zinchenko. Lack of cover for Kieran Tierney cost them the Champions League place last season.”

It remains to be seen whether the Gunners can maintain their impressive run of form. However, if they do, Jesus, along with the other newcomers, could play an important role.
