Sergio Aguero makes Premier League title prediction, makes Mikel Arteta admission
According to Sergio Aguero, his former club Manchester City has the potential to win the title race and surpass Arsenal. Despite Arsenal’s current eight-point lead, City has a game in hand and will face Arsenal on April 26.
Aguero, who won five Premier League titles during his ten seasons with City and holds the club’s record for the most goals scored, believes that City’s experience in successfully navigating title races can give them an advantage over their rivals.
“This is proving to be quite a title race,” said Aguero. “Arsenal are very consistent – I know Mikel Arteta and I respect his expertise. He knows how to make his team perform, and to better utilise the young, hungry players in his squad.
“We are keeping up the pace, though and are hot on their heels. But we also know, from tried and tested experience, that it isn’t over until it’s over. One thing is certain, City will fight until the end. It’s in our DNA. I hope we can overtake them and win another title.”
Aguero, who is 34 years old, expressed his desire to team up with Erling Haaland in attack. Haaland has achieved a remarkable feat of scoring 42 goals in his first season with City.
“That would have been nice, wouldn’t it?” said Aguero, who scored a record 260 goals for City. “I think we’d have been able to complement each other well.
“I’ve played with some pure strikers like Haaland during my career. For Independiente and Atletico Madrid, I played with Diego Forlan and Diego Costa.
“Or at City, with Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo – they are great examples. The result was always very good. When one was in, the other was out.
“That allowed us to create more dangerous situations and we scored a lot of goals together. I’m certain that would have been the case with Haaland, who has had an amazing start to life at City.”
