Spain midfield star Saul Niguez aspires to have his summer move to England sorted this week — with Manchester United and Liverpool in pole position for his signature.

Representatives of the 26-year-old have been given the grace of Atletico Madrid bigwigs to negotiate a move for their man.

And they are due to jet into England tomorrow in an attempt to strike a deal to bring him to the Premier League.

Man United are in the box seat but Liverpool are also keen and suggestions will be sought from both clubs in a bid to tie up a deal quickly.

Sources close to the player state has no desire for his future to still be up in the air by the middle of August when England and Spain’s top flights both kick-off.

He was not an automatic starter under Simeone last season however and was subbed off during crucial games during the season run-in, failing to play the full 90 minutes in their final seven fixtures.

Saul could be a candidate to replace Paul Pogba at Old Trafford with the Frenchman still to sign a new deal with United.

Pogba is into the final year of his current deal with his agent Mino Raiola holding talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a possible move.

Midfielder Saul’s buyout clause at Atletico Madrid is around £125million but the current La Liga champions know they will get nowhere near that figure in the current market.

Instead, he will be permitted to leave for between £35m and £40m as his club deal with the financial result of the coronavirus pandemic.
