Saturday Transfer Update: Manchester United

Man Utd to ‘listen to offers’ for Anthony Martial Donny van de Beek

Manchester United are reportedly ready to listen to offers for Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek as they close in on Jadon Sancho.

United have agreed a deal in principle with Borussia Dortmund to sign Sancho for £75m – plus an extra £5m in add ons.

And a raft of players could be sold as the Premier League giants look to recoup funds and clear the wage bill to pave the way for the England winger’s arrival.

They include Martial, who could struggle to nail down a role in a rejigged United attack if Sancho signs.

And Van de Beek could also be sold just a year after joining from Ajax in a £38million deal.

United close in on €90m deal for Dortmund winger Sancho

Manchester United are closing in on deal with Borussia Dortmund for England forward Jadon Sancho that could be worth at least €90 million deal.

United have been in advanced negotiations with their German counterparts in recent days and an agreement is now edging nearer to being reached.

Dortmund were initially demanding €100m for Sancho, a fee United were unprepared to meet, and have since being holding out for €95m.

After an initial offer of €78m was rejected by Dortmund, United returned to the table this week with an improved bid worth €85m.

It is thought that United have since raised their offer to €90m, even if there has been no clarity at this stage over the exact breakdown of the proposed fee as discussions continue.

A €90m fee would make Sancho the third most expensive recruit in United’s history after Paul Pogba and Harry Maguire.

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane wants to join Manchester United this summer

The France centre-back’s decision comes as Real Madrid enter a period of transition.

The centre-half, 28, is United’s top defensive target, with Villareal and Spain star Pau Torres seen as an alternative.

One of the many stumbling blocks to sign Varane would be his wages, as he is pushing to earn as much as £400,000 a week.

United are wary of overpaying for contracts after issues with previous purchases such as Alexis Sanchez.

Varane feels now is the time to change clubs after almost a decade at Madrid, with the La Liga giants facing an uncertain future with Carlo Ancelotti replacing Zinedine Zidane this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain are also an option for Varane, but his preference is to move to the Premier League.

United meanwhile remain at a standstill in their pursuit of England winger Jadon Sancho due to a gap between their valuation of the 21-year-old and the figure Borussia Dortmund have in mind.

Everton in talks to sign Manchester United outcast on free transfer

Everton are in talks to sign Manchester United outcast Sergio Romero, according to reports. The goalkeeper hasn’t featured for the club since July last year and is set to be released from the club next week.

Romero, who joined Manchester United in 2015, has often acted as David de Gea’s understudy but boasts a wonderful record between the sticks at the club.

The Argentina international was denied a move to Everton last year by United, but the Toffees have reportedly reignited their interest.

That’s according to The Athletic, who say that Everton are in talks with Romero’s representatives over a move but face competition from Juventus and Celta Vigo.

Romero is a free agent in just six days and has been free to speak to foreign clubs since January, but is reportedly now closing in on an agreement with a new club.

Man United trying to hijack Ajax deal for 19-year-old wonderkid

In quite extraordinary events, reports claim Manchester United are trying to hijack Ajax’s deal to sign Kamaldeen Sulemana. The youngster has been linked with a move to the club this summer but it seemed like the Amsterdam club had won the race.

But on Thursday, it was reported that despite scheduling a medical with Ajax, that Sulemana was considering an offer from Manchester United.

According to German journalist Constantin Eckner, the deal to bring Sulemana from Midtjylland to Ajax hasn’t been completed, allowing Manchester United to swoop in and potentially hijack the deal.

It would represent quite a dramatic turn of events but with attacking positions already overstaffed, is there enough space for Sulemana at the club. Regardless, should Manchester United pursue the deal, it could be a case of a player too good to pass on.

Manchester United ‘cool’ their interest in Atletico Madrid star

Manchester United have stepped off the gas on their pursuit of Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier, according to reports. The club has been pursuing a deal for the right-back this summer but are now ‘cooling’ their interest.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that the Old Trafford hierarchy are taking a step back due to Atletico Madrid’s high asking price, believed to be £28m.

Manchester United, who have been looking to add competition at right-back, were reportedly willing to offer £10m for the 30-year-old, which fell way short of the Madrid club’s valuation.

Instead, Diogo Dalot, who is set to return from a season-long loan at AC Milan, is reportedly being touted to be Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s back-up next season.

One of the clubs desperate to secure the services of Tzolis is Club Brugge, who are still licking their wounds after the departure of Emmanuel Dennis and Krepin Diatta.
