In a recent report, the Daily Record (as cited by Glasgow Live) has claimed that Rangers are plotting a sensational reunion with Billy Gilmour. The Chelsea youngster has been impressive for both club and country and is now gearing up for more first-team minutes, having grabbed the attention already.

The 20-year-old midfield prodigy left Ibrox four years ago to join the Blues’ esteemed academy ranks and made his first-team debut under Frank Lampard a couple of years later. His performance against Liverpool in a FA Cup fixture received massive plaudits last year and the Scotsman eventually gained Thomas Tuchel’s trust who replaced Lampard midway through the previous term.

While Norwich City are closing in on securing his services on a season-long loan, Rangers are set to make a last-ditch attempt to bring Billy Gilmour back in familiar surroundings. The Canaries have Premier Lague football to offer week in week out, but the Bears’ opportunity to make it through to the main round of the prestigious Champions League might make the race more intriguing. Financial problems could put an end to Napoli’s pursuit of Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri.

I Partenopei have been pursuing the Italian ever since the summer began but they are still nowhere near agreeing on a deal with the European champions.

La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that in order for Chelsea to allow the player to go out on loan this summer, he must first sign a new deal as his current one runs out in 2022. This applies even if the loan includes an obligation to buy.

The other problem that is facing Luciano Spalletti’s side is that Emerson Palmieri currently earns €4.6 million a season at the West London club, which is a salary that Napoli cannot match.

This means any loan move would likely require Chelsea to pay a percentage of the Italian international’s wages.

However, Chelsea are still thought to be keeping their pursuit of the player alive, with offers including players going the other way still their strategy to persuade Inter to deal with them over the Parisians.

The Blues have offered both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri as part of a deal, with the valuation of those players intended to bring the total value of a deal to an amount that the Nerazzurri are happy with.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea’s approach will have any success, but for now they could still beat PSG to Hakimi’s signature despite clear signs that the French club intend to close the deal.
