According to journalist Simon Phillips, if midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek doesn’t agree to a contract extension with Chelsea, the club will aim to sell him during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Despite a rollercoaster season for Graham Potter’s team, the 27-year-old has been a consistent member of the starting lineup and has shown satisfactory performances.

Chelsea latest news – Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Football Insider has recently reported that as Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s contract with Chelsea approaches its final 12 months, the club is planning to make him available for a transfer at the end of the current season.

Although Chelsea can trigger an extension clause in his contract, they are reportedly hesitant to do so and may opt to sell the English midfielder instead.

AC Milan has shown interest in Loftus-Cheek, with Calciomercato reporting that they may try to sign him for €25 million (£21.9 million).

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho, who is a fan of Loftus-Cheek, could attempt to bring him to Roma, and other Premier League clubs are also interested in him. Loftus-Cheek is currently earning approximately £150,000 per week under his current deal with Chelsea.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount may be sold by Chelsea in the upcoming summer transfer window if they do not agree on contract extensions before the end of the current season.

The club is reportedly keen to secure their futures and avoid losing them for free when their contracts expire. If they fail to agree on new deals, Chelsea may look to sell them to avoid losing them for nothing.

Phillips told GMS: “Ruben is certainly one that Chelsea could end up selling this summer, there’s been no fresh contract talks between the club and Ruben. His contract is up in 2024, which is the same as Mason Mount, so Chelsea don’t want to allow players to go through into their final year of their contract.

“They don’t want to lose them as free agents like we’ve seen previously with Andres Christensen and Antonio Rudiger. Chelsea want their futures sorted one way or the other well before that happens, so if Ruben doesn’t sign a new contract, or if Chelsea don’t offer him one, then Chelsea will have to sell him this summer.”

Ultimately, the decision on Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s future will be up to his manager, Graham Potter, who has a surplus of midfield options at his disposal. However, indications suggest that the 27-year-old may need to look for new opportunities as Chelsea prepares for another busy transfer window.

Despite making 27 appearances for Chelsea in the 2022/23 season and being a consistent starter, Loftus-Cheek has only managed one assist in all competitions, according to Transfermarkt. Therefore, it is possible that he may be wearing a different team’s jersey come the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
