Sam Allardyce makes Ballon d’Or claim regarding one Tottenham star

Former England manager Sam Allardyce believes that Tottenham’s Harry Kane is the most likely English player to win the coveted Ballon d’Or in the near future.

Harry Kane may still be in search of his first piece of silverware, but he has already amassed a substantial amount of personal accolades.

The 29-year-old forward has won three Premier League Golden Boots and the 2018 World Cup Golden Boot.

Additionally, he has received four Player of the Year awards for both Tottenham and England (Transfermarkt). Kane will also likely become the all-time leading scorer for both club and country in the near future.

Kane finished in 21st place in this year’s Ballon d’Or award, which is the most prestigious individual award in men’s football. Given his incredible year in 2022, this is a lower ranking than some would have expected for the England captain.

According to Sam Allardyce on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, however, Kane could win the award in the near future.

Allardyce, in response to a question about which English players could win the award, stated: “Harry Kane would be the number one choice. He’s the one who’s likely to score the goals.

“If England go a long way in the World Cup, and he’s up there with the leading scorers, he’s got to be your number one contender.

On Kane’s career at Tottenham, Allardyce did admit that could harm his chances: “Yeah, invariably I think. It’s well documented that that’s why he wanted to get away I think. It was nothing to do with the Ballon d’Or, Kane wanted to go away and win some medals.”

“It looks like he’s come to terms with that now, and he’s going to stay a bit like Alan Shearer, although Alan did win the Premier League with Blackburn. He was happy enough being a Newcastle lad to stay with them, and be a legend.”
