Ruben Loftus-Cheek points out key problem Chelsea encountered under Thomas Tuchel amid AC Milan win
Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has highlighted a key issue that Graham Potter has addressed since taking over as Thomas Tuchel’s successor.
The Blues struggled to score goals near the end of Tuchel’s tenure, which Todd Boehly attempted to address in the summer transfer window with the signings of Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The German manager turned down the chance to sign Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, a proposal brought to him by Boehly after the American owner met with agent Jorge Mendes, a decision that contributed to his dismissal in September.
Chelsea have scored five goals in three matches since Potter’s appointment, one less than they did in twice as many games under Tuchel this season, highlighting the difference in attack under the new manager.
The west London club is still unbeaten under Potter and will look to maintain their form in a difficult match against Wolves this weekend.
Loftus-Cheek highlighted the key area where the Blues have improved under Potter as the new manager continues to implement his own style of play and tactics on the squad following Wednesday night’s 3-0 win over AC Milan. Chelsea’s midfielder stated:
“Really delighted [with the win], there’s a really good mood in the changing room.
“Fantastic performance from us, the energy straight from the start. We endured and suffered at times in the game, we had to, but we came through that.
“We were ruthless with the chances, that’s been the difference. We’ve had many games where we’ve played well but just couldn’t finish it off, tonight we took our chances.”
Summer signing Aubameyang has now scored in back-to-back games, and Reece James has also found some form to help the Blues in both defense and attack.
Wesley Fofana scored his first goal for the club but was forced off with a knee injury in the first half, but fears that he would miss the rest of the season have been allayed after it was revealed that the French defender has only suffered a knee sprain and will be back in action ahead of the 2022 World Cup next month.
