Romelu Lukaku reveals how his ‘sad’ Chelsea memories are influencing his play.

Former Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku revealed that he uses his miss for Chelsea in the Super Cup final as inspiration to improve as a footballer.

Lukaku took on a Twitter Q&A session where he was asked about that particular night in 2013.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich couldn’t resolve their encounter in normal or extra time, so had to resolve the tie via a penalty shootout.

Bayern had a complete sweep of spot-kicks, meaning the Blues would need to convert their last from 12 yards to stay in the match.

Up stepped Lukaku.

Fresh-faced, new, and just 20, the world paused with bated breath.

The Belgian struck low to Manuel Neuer’s left but was unable to squeeze his shot past the goalkeeper’s fingertips.

A scene of desolation surrounded Lukaku. Little did he know, that was only half the story.

Just hours after the game ended, the striker reportedly delivered in a transfer request.

Four days later, he switched to Everton on loan. Less than 12 months rolled by, and the Toffees signed him permanently.

His career after that evening in Prague has gone pretty well.

After banging goals left, right, and center at Goodison Park, Lukaku got his big-money transfer to Manchester United in 2017.

It wasn’t too long before he was jetting off to Italy, where he has truly established himself as one of the world’s most dreaded no.9s at Inter Milan.

So much so, Chelsea have expressly asked for him back at Stamford Bridge.
