Roberto Carlos places challenge for Luke Shaw at Manchester United
Brazil legend Roberto Carlos stated Luke Shaw was the best player at Euro 2020 as he asked the defender to maintain performing at a high level.
Shaw started six of the seven matches for the Three Lions as they made their first international final since 1966, with the Manchester United chap registering three assists and scoring the opener in the loss to Italy in the final.
His displays down the left throughout the competition saw the 26-year-old earn himself the nickname ‘Shawberto Carlos’ in honor of the legendary former Real Madrid defender.
Carlos honored the former Southampton man for his achievements during the tournament. Now he’s gone one step further during an interview with GQ magazine and offered words of encouragement for the future, too.
“He [Shaw] was the best player in the tournament. He has to keep it up; he has to continue playing like that. That’s important.”
After an outstanding season for United last year, Shaw will enter the new term as their first-choice left-back once again and will be looking to build on those achievements to help United challenge for silverware after four trophyless seasons.
Shaw is likely to return to first-team training next week before United’s opening Premier League match against Leeds United on 14 August at Old Trafford.
